Hello, My name is Trisha (Askew) Blunden. My husband Dan and I would like to introduce you to the bravest little boy we have ever met. Our son, Thomas was born in 2015, two minutes after his twin sister, Cora. Joy quickly turned to fear when at two days old, doctors discovered that he had Hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain) and required surgery to place a shunt in his brain. Thomas’s life has been a never ending routine of doctors, therapists and specialists. Thomas has undergone three additional surgeries and many more diagnoses in his short lifetime. Thomas has been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, Hypotonia, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, low IQ, learning disabilities, along with severe behavioral, emotional and mental health issues. His most recent surgery was in May 2023, an invasive brain surgery to replace his malfunctioning shunt. An intense post-op recovery started, and we began to address all of the other unrelated symptoms that Thomas was still presenting prior to surgery. We continued our search for how to help our boy live HIS best life. In January, 2024 we received answers from a genetics/chromosome test. Thomas was diagnosed with 48 XXYY syndrome. This is an extremely rare XY sex chromosome disorder that has no known cause. We were referred to the top specialists at U of M in February, 2024. Due to the EXTREME rarity (less than 100 known cases in the world) of 48 XXYY, U of M has referred us to the only US hospital that has a specialized program for 48 XXYY. The University of Colorado Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in the USA with the expertise, testing, and specialized treatment plans for Thomas. We are hoping and praying to raise money for Thomas’s current and ongoing medical needs, including his initial trip & travel expenses to Colorado. Thomas will need lifelong care. We are so incredibly humbled and thankful for your support to help us BEST help Thomas. We cannot thank you enough!!!God Bless you all!!
Sincerely,
The Blunden Family
